Perlite
Our company quarries a perlite resource in the central North Island, with an estimated extractable volume of over 1,000,000m3. We mine the ore from this resource and primary process at our Atiamuri quarry, from where the graded perlite is transported to our Auckland factory.
At this location, we dry, crush and screen approximately 6000mt of perlite ore per annum.
A large proportion of this production is exported into the foundry, cryogenics, pipe insulation and filtration markets in Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, India, Iran, South Africa, Vietnam, India, China & Australia. We also operate an expansion plant to produce expanded perlite product for the domestic horticultural, construction, and cryogenic markets in New Zealand.
Pumice
We operate a pumice and sand quarry at Atiamuri. This plant produced 25,000m3 of graded pumice in the previous year for various markets including horticulture and construction. Pumice from this quarry is shipped to our Auckland plant for further processing for the export market.
Sand
From the Atiamuri Quarry we also produced washed and graded sand primarily for the domestic plaster and concrete markets. 15,000m3 was supplied in the past twelve months.
Basalt
We have recently entered the basalt market and in the coming twelve months anticipate processing +2000mt of washed, dried and graded basalt. Primary markets include water filtration, abrasive blasting and mineral fertilizers
Other
Our business is also involved in toll processing for a number of multi-national companies including Du Pont and OMYA and trading of other minerals in the international market. |
